Deuteronomy 7:9 Day 5

Well done! You have made it to the last day of reflection on our memory verse. Next week, we will be moving on to another verse, but that doesn’t mean you have to leave this one behind. Now that you have memorised this verse, it will be with you always. It is a new weapon in your arsenal which the Holy Spirit will use to help you fight the fight of faith.

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

I’m sure you would agree that the practical ramifications of this verse are far more than what they first might have appeared to be. We have seen how this verse gives us help and hope in the midst of guilt and temptation. This means it speaks to you in whatever life situation you find yourself in.

As we finish up this study, it will be helpful to think about how this verse works.

First, let me say how it doesn’t work. The verse doesn’t work like a pill, which we take with a glass of water and then leave to secretly do its thing, without any more involvement from us. Neither does it work by providing a self-help programme of steps to follow.

No, this verse gives help and hope by connecting you to a person. Think about it. This verse is a command to ‘know’ that God is faithful. It is a call to remember that you have a God who has made promises to you and is committed to fulfilling them. It does this so that you would walk with Him through your circumstances. It is all about relationship. Will you love Him, obey Him and trust Him? It is in your relationship with your faithful God that hope and help comes.
